Project Overview

This project, "Strengthening the culture of peace and resilience among 200 children and youths in Jos through constructive engagement," was implemented by a consortium comprising Centre for Peace Advancement in Nigeria (CEPAN), Centre for Community Actions for Peace and Development (CCAPAD), Community Aid Workers Initiatives (CAWI), and Gangare Youth Forum (GYF).

It is a Peace Building intervention aimed at challenging and changing the narratives of vulnerable teenagers and youths prone to crime, violence, and other social vices in four selected conflict flashpoint communities in Jos. The project provides them with healthy alternatives of resilience, self-esteem, peace, and other human virtues for development and harmonious coexistence.

Our dedicated team designed a comprehensive approach that tackles the root causes of the problem and provides sustainable solutions, promoting inter-group, inter-ethnic, and inter-religious interaction and dialogue among children and youth.

Key Features

Community Engagement

We actively engaged community members and Community Development Associations (CDAs) in the planning, decision-making, and implementation processes. By involving local stakeholders, we ensured that our efforts were tailored to the specific needs and aspirations of the communities.

Capacity Building

CCAPAD recognizes the importance of equipping youths and children with the necessary skills and knowledge to address challenges effectively. Our project incorporates targeted capacity-building initiatives that provide training and skills acquisition to empower youths and children. By nurturing local talents, we aim to foster long-term sustainability and self-reliance.

Collaboration and Partnerships

We actively seek partnerships with Community Development Associations, governmental bodies, and like-minded NGOs to leverage resources, expertise, and networks. Together, we create a synergistic effect and amplify our collective impact.

Monitoring and Evaluation

To ensure transparency and accountability, CCAPAD established a robust monitoring and evaluation framework. Regular assessments and feedback mechanisms enabled us to measure progress, identify areas for improvement, and adapt our strategies accordingly.

Key Impact

  • Behavioral Change: Direct project beneficiaries identified as drug abusers now shun substance abuse and contribute to community peace, security, and development, attested to by counseling and drug therapy sessions.
  • Youth Engagement: The project targeted 200 youth and children (ages 10–35) vulnerable to drug abuse and violence. They were actively involved in implementation and now engage peers on peace and stability.
  • Economic Empowerment: 60 youths (males, females, and PLWDs) were trained in various skills (hairdressing, tiling, popcorn production, perishable goods business, Akamu and Akara production) and empowered with start-up packs to launch individual businesses.

Conclusion

Together, we can create a lasting impact and transform communities. Join us in our mission to empower individuals, promote sustainability, and foster positive change. Together, we can build a brighter future.
